Financial Awards and Assistance

Since its inception Metropolitan University has been awarding merit scholarships to attract and retain good students and need-based financial assistance to facilitate education of poor but meritorious students. Benefits to students are provided in the following forms:

Merit Scholarships at the Entry Level

Criteria Scholarship Award
i. Candidates scoring GPA 10 (SSC & HSC) Both Golden GPA 5.00 50% Merit Scholarship (full tuition waiver) for 4 (four) years.
ii. Candidates scoring GPA 10 (SSC & HSC) One Golden GPA 5.00 30% Merit Scholarship (tuition fee waiver) for 4 (four) years.
iii. Candidates securing GPA 10 (SSC & HSC) Without Golden GPA 5.00 20% Merit Scholarship (tuition fee waiver) for 4 (four) years.
iv. Candidates securing GPA 9 (SSC & HSC) 10% Merit Scholarship (tuition fee waiver) for 4 (four) years.

Merit Scholarship for the Existing Students

  • The students securing A+ grade (4.00 out of 4.00) in all courses of three consecutive terms will be awarded Chairman’s Scholarship of TK1500 per month in the next three consecutive terms.
  • The students securing A+ grade (4.00 out of 4.00) in all courses but one (A grade, 3.75 out of 4.00) in three consecutive terms will be awarded Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship of TK 1000 per month in the next three consecutive terms.

Need-based Scholarship

According to the provision of the Private University Act 2010 (Clause 9.4), and as a mark of respect to the valiant freedom fighters of the War of Liberation and Independence, MU provides 20% tuition fee waiver to the wards of freedom fighters which are at least 3% of all students admitted in each semester.

Tuition fee waiver as above is then continued provided that CGPA in each semester remains 2.70 or more.

Tuition fee Waiver for Female Students

In order to encourage entry of female students to higher education, Metropolitan University provides 15% tuition fee waiver to all female students subject to the condition that they meet the admission requirements set by the university and pass the admission test.

Family Concession

Metropolitan University provides 20% of tuition fee waiver when two siblings (brother/sister with the same parents). However, both must be admitted into full-time regular programs. The benefit commences on the date of admission of the second sibling and ceases to function with the discontinuation of study of any one of them, after his/her graduation, or for any other reason.

Merit Scholarship awardees cannot qualify to get the benefit for siblings or other similar benefits.

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions for Chairman and Vice Chancellor Scholarships

  1. 1 Chairman Scholarship - Students must achieve a GPA of 4.00 out of 4.00 in all subjects over three consecutive (four-months) terms.
  2. 2 Vice Chancellor Scholarship - Students must achieve a GPA of 4.00 out of 4.00 in all courses except one course, where the grade must not be below 3.75, over three consecutive (four-month) terms.
  3. 3 Students who have taken any Retake, Supplementary Examination, or if there is any drop shall not be eligible for any of the scholarship.
  4. 4 The scholarship will be awarded up to the 11th term. The final term shall not be considered for scholarship eligibility in calculating the three consecutive terms.
  5. 5 A student may apply for these scholarships only once during the entire duration of a four-year Programme.
  6. 6 Students receiving an additional special tuition waiver of 10% or more on monthly tuition fees shall not be eligible for any of the Scholarship.
  7. 7 Students already receiving any other scholarship from external organizations or institutions (e.g., HSC Board Scholarship) shall not be eligible.
  8. 8 Students enrolled in Master’s programs are not eligible for any of the Scholarship.
  9. 9 Students must maintain the disciplinary standards of the University. Any student against whom disciplinary action has been taken shall not be eligible for either scholarship. Furthermore, if a scholarship recipient is subsequently found guilty of any disciplinary violation or becomes subject to disciplinary action during the scholarship period, the scholarship shall be forfeited immediately.
  10. 10 Chairman Scholarship recipients shall receive Tk. 1,500 per month for one year, along with a certificate.
  11. 11 Vice Chancellor Scholarship recipients shall receive Tk. 1,000 per month for one year, along with a certificate.
  12. 12 Applications for scholarships shall be invited one week after the publication of the results of each semester.
  13. 13 The application submission deadline shall be two weeks from the date of the announcement. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
  14. 14 The academic results of the applicants shall be verified and signed by the respective Heads of the Departments.
  15. 15 Scholarship funds shall be disbursed in three installments directly to the recipients’ bank accounts. Therefore, maintaining an active bank account is mandatory for receiving scholarship payments.
  16. 16 To receive scholarship installments, students must continue their studies (if they have not yet completed the four-year program).
  17. 17 These amendments shall take effect from the calculation of the Current Term (Summer 2026) results.
