103rd Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation and National Children?s Day Observed.
Metropolitan University celebrated the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children?s Day 2023 on 17 March 2023 with great enthusiasm. The day was observed with elaborate programmes.
At 9 am, the national flag and the University flag were hoisted by Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen respectively.
Thereafter, the University teachers, officials and employees paid deep homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by placing floral wreath at his portrait in the campus.
Later on, a discussion meeting was held at the Professor M. Habibur Rahman Hall. Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque attended the discussion as Chief Guest. In his speech he said, ?The independence of Bangladesh is a wonder in the world. The real architect of the independence is Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.?He was the leader of all the people of the nation regardless of religion, caste, profession and social status.?He properly combined democracy and socialism. His six-point demands in1966 was a reflection of extraordinary political wisdom and the thinking of a successful leader.? He also added, ?Bangabandhu was very caring about children. He has done a lot of work for the welfare of children.?We also need to take a good care of children. Following Bangabandhu's ideologies, the new generation should move towards Smart Bangladesh?
The programme was presided over by the Dean of the School of Business & Economics Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa. The discussion started with the welcome speech of the Registrar of the University Mr. Tarek Islam. Acting Dean of the School of Law, Associate Professor Sheikh Ashrafur Rahaman was the keynote speaker. Dean of the School of Science & Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury; Advisor (Student Welfare) Professor Choudhury M. Mukammel Wahid;?Professor & Head Department of Economics, Dr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin; Deputy Registrar, and Mr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury also spoke on that occasion.
Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque cut a cake on the occasion with all the guests, teachers, officials, students, present children and employees.?At the end of the discussion meeting, there was a cultural programme. Besides, a painting competition was held in the morning among the children of the teachers, officers and employees of the University. Prizes were given away among the winners of the drawing competition by the chief guest and other guests.
Heads and teachers of all departments, Controller of Examination?Mr. Khondakar Moksud Ahmed; Additional Director of IQAC (ELT) and Associate Professor of the Department of English Rama Islam; Director (Finance), Mr. Enamul Haque; Deputy Librarian Mashruf Ahmed Chowdhury and officers and employees were present on the occasion.
