Independence Day Observed
The Independence and National Day 2022 was celebrated on Saturday, the 26th March through various programmes. It included hoisting of the national flag in the campus, offering floral wreaths at Central Shahid Minar, holding a discussion meeting on the significance of the day?and presenting a cultural programme. In the morning at 9 am the floral homage was paid by the University family at the central Shaheed Minar. Later on, a discussion meeting was held at Professor M. Habibur Rahman Library. The meeting was presided over by the Convener of Independence and National Day Celebration Committee and Dean of the School of Business and Economics Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa. Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen attended the programme as the chief guest and the?Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak was the keynote speaker.??Besides, the Registrar of the University Professor Dr. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury, and Acting Dean of the School of Law and Associate Professor of the Department of Law & Justice, Sheikh Ashrafur Rahaman also spoke on the occasion.?The Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury ; Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Saleh Uddin PhD joined the discussion meeting virtually. Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak said,?"?In the 51 years of independence, many things remain unresolved. Two main principles of the constitution of 1972 are dismissed. The Pakistani government has never apologized for their acts in the liberation war. Some people of the country have not yet accepted independence from their heart. We have not been able to keep the Father of the Nation above all disagreements. Once his name was barred, various slanders were spread to destroy his memory. But now things are changing and we are going back to our roots. " Professor Shiba Prasad Sen said, "?Henry Kissinger, former?US secretary of state,??criticised?Bangladesh as a 'bottomless basket' some time?after?the independence. But Bangladesh has now achieved remarkable progress in social, economic, technological and power sector." Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa said, "?We have been promoted to developing country status from Least Developed Country status. We need to throw away all negative thoughts and move forward positively." Moreover, On the occasion of Independence Day, MU Cultural Club organised a three-day long literary and cultural competition. Prizes were distributed among the winners of the event and a cultural programme was also held at the end of the meeting.
