Innovation Lab-2 invented Electricity Generating Floor Tiles
Electricity will be generated from the floor tiles when someone walks on it. Using this innovative idea, a team of Metropolitan University Innovation Lab-2 invented Electricity Generating Floor Tiles for the first time in Bangladesh. Associate Professor Mr. ASM Iftekhar Uddin, the Head of the Dept. of Physics was the Chief researcher of the project. Besides, students from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Md. Raju Miah, Proma Paul, Sojol Kanti Sinha, Jannatul Ferdous Lily and Sumaiya Jannat Chowdhury worked as assistant researchers of the Project. The project Electricity Generating Floor Tiles was officially inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Professor Dr. Farid Uddin Ahmed; the Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury; Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen and Head of the Dept. of CSE, SUST, Professor Dr. Mohammed Jahirul Islam. Mr. ASM Iftekhar Uddin?said, ?The researchers started the 'Electricity Generating Floor Tiles' project, keeping in mind that the unused power can be transformed into electricity to solve the power problem of Bangladesh. The team worked for about six months in the lab to invent this technology.? He also added, ?We have invented a special type of floor tiles, they can be installed in the house or on the streets. In this tile, we used magnetic obsession. There is a special type of battery also. When someone walks on the tiles, the pressure will generate electricity and it will be stored in the battery.? The Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury said, ?Innovation Team is working for further development of the project. They are also ready to work with the government of Bangladesh if needed.? It may be mentioned that another project of Mr. ASM Iftekhar Uddin ?Vibration Driven Electromagnetic Energy Harvester? was selected in the final round of Innov-a-thon 2018 which is a competition arranged by a2i Programme of the Prime Minister Office.
