A memorial meeting and special prayer were held at Metropolitan University in remembrance of the late Registrar, Tarek Islam, who passed away suddenly. The event took place on Sunday (February 23) at the Professor M. Habibur Rahman Library Hall of the university.
The memorial meeting was conducted by the university’s Deputy Controller of Examinations, Sumona Aziz. Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, addressed the gathering.
The event was overseen by Tanvir M.O. Rahman Chowdhury, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
During the memorial meeting, Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa, Treasurer of the university, shared the life and contributions of the late Tarek Islam. Other speakers included Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak, Director of IQAC Professor Choudhury M. Mukammel Wahid, Controller of Examinations Maksud Ahmed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law Sheikh Ashraful Rahman, Head of the Software Engineering Department Fuad Ahmed, Student Welfare Advisor M.Z. Ashraful, Executive Engineer Shanti Babu Prasad Roy, Senior Office Assistant Rafiq Ahmed.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Yakub Ali Tanju, a student of the Business Administration Department.
A special prayer for the forgiveness of Tarek Islam’s soul was led by the university’s Imam, Ismail Hossain.
It is worth mentioning that Tarek Islam, the Registrar of Metropolitan University, passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of Friday (February 21). He had been serving the institution for nearly one and a half decades. His sudden demise has left the university community in deep sorrow.
