Metropolitan University Observed National Mourning Day 2018
Metropolitan University observed the National Mourning Day on?15th?August, 2018?on the occasion of the 43rd?death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the members of his family, who were brutally murdered on 15th?August 1975.

National flag was hoisted half mast in both the campuses of the University. A discussion meeting together with poem recitation and dua mahfil was held in Professor M. Habibur Rahman Library Hall at?11 am.

The discussion meeting was presided over by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury said, ?Bangladesh would not have been independent if the greatest Bengali of all times, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was not born.?Bengali, Bangladesh and Bangabandhu are the names of a common entity. This independent Bangladesh is achieved through a long struggle. The name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is most pronounced among those who have sacrificed for this achievement. Bangabandhu is the greatest personality in the history of Bangladesh.??

The Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak said, ?Many attempts were made to erase the name of Bangabandhu. There was so much propagation with him. In our stories and novels, we do not find the name of Bangabandhu as much as we find of Liberation War.? He also said, ?Bangabandhu must be evaluated objectively, he should be kept above the debate.?

Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Shiba Prasad Sen said, ?History is also included in the poetry. The poems written on Bangabandhu have not been written on any major leader or ruler of the world. We have to convert our mourning to our strength. Through the formation of an exploitation-free non-communal state, we can pay rich tributes to Bangabandhu.?

Convener of National Mourning Day Observance Committee and Dean of the School of Business and Economics Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa delivered the welcome speech.

Later on, the Special Guest of the programme and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, University Mr. Tanwir M.O. Rahman Chowdhury handed over souvenir prizes to the students of the department of Law & Justice Maria Minnat Upoma and student of the department of English Rashida Aktar Chowdhury, who recited poems.

At the end of the discussion, a special prayer was arranged for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were brutally murdered on 15th?August 1975.

All the teachers, students and officials were present in the discussion.
