Metropolitan University, Sylhet, Receives Permanent License

Metropolitan University, the 18th private university in the country and the first in Sylhet, has been granted a permanent license. This information was confirmed in a letter dated October 3, 2024, from Dr. Md. Farhad Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the Private University-1 Branch, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education.


The letter states, "In accordance with Section 10 of the Private University Act 2010, the Metropolitan University, Boteshwar, Sylhet-3104, is hereby granted a permanent license to establish and operate the university."


It is noteworthy that visionary educationist and entrepreneur Dr. Taufiq Rahman Chowdhury started the university's academic activities in 2003 with a temporary license from the Ministry of Education. Initially, the university's operations began in a building in Jindabazar. In 2019, a permanent campus was established in Boteshwar, Sylhet.


Over the past 21 years, graduates from this university have been working with distinction and skill in renowned institutions both at home and abroad. The university has four faculties and seven departments, including Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Business Administration, Law and Justice, English, and Economics. Three successful convocations have already been held, and preparations are underway for the fourth.


It is worth mentioning that 115 private universities are operating in Bangladesh. Among them, Metropolitan University is the 18th private university in the country and the first in Sylhet to receive a permanent license.


The founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Metropolitan University, Dr. Taufiq Rahman Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque, the Ministry of Education, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and other relevant government departments and divisions, as well as the university's Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, Syndicate, and Academic Council members, all teachers, officers, former and current students, and their guardians have expressed their gratitude and congratulations on this achievement
