Students of Metropolitan University invented sophisticated Electronic Braille Reader.
A group of students and teacher of the department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Metropolitan University have invented a ?Low Cost Wireless Electronic Braille Reader? for visually impaired people. This device can read text from mobile phone or computer then convert it to Braille and creates sensation on the hand of impaired people thereby it is not necessary to print out the Braille separately. The development cost of the device is three thousand taka only. This advantageous device is invented on the supervision of Syed Razwanul Haque Nabil (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE) & Co-Supervision of Robi Kormokar(Lecturer, Dept. of EEE). Student from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering Akhlak-Uzzaman Ashik & Pronab Kormorar also worked in the project. The device has been tasted several times on visually impaired people and they have been able to read using the device. The development team said, ?Soon the device will be made open source. So that anyone can develop it as well as we are going to add some extra features such as the device will be able to read data directly from pen drive or memory card, user will be able to write on Braille besides reading? This technology will magnificently help visually impaired people to read and write text.
