The Independence and National Day Observed
The Independence and National Day 2019 was celebrated on Monday, 26th March through various programmes. It included hoisting of the national flag in both campuses, placing floral wreaths at Central Shahid Minar, discussion meeting on the significance of the day, quiz competition, poster and photo exhibition and cultural programme. The discussion meeting was presided over by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen while the Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury was the Chief Guest and the Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak was the keynote speaker. The Convener of the Independence Day and National Day Celebration Committee and Dean of the School of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa delivered the welcome speech at the beginning of the programme. Besides, the Registrar of the University Muhammad FR Tanvir, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Economics, Beauty Nahida Sultana also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury said, ?Freedom is our biggest achievement. But if we do not hold the values of independence, it will not be meaningful. All of us have to uphold the values of independence.? Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak says, ?History of our liberation war is genocide depended. But some people ridiculed this genocide, expressed doubts whether the three million people were martyred! For this reason, we have to write the authentic history.? Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Shiba Prasad Sen said, ?Bangladesh is stepping towards progress along the path of independence. The country is being developed. But the proper distribution of development is not being done. As a result we cannot see exploitation-free society. We need to balance the development.? Earlier, guests visited the poster and photo exhibition and distributed prizes among the winners of various events. The Winners of the?Quiz Competition are Mehedi Hasan (1st), Tasnim Hossain (2nd) and Abu Sayed Khan (3rd). The Winners of Photography Exhibition are Abul Fazal (1st), Marowa Minnat Upoma (2nd), Prothoma Chowdhury (3rd), Ataul Goni Amit (4th) and Jannatul Maowa (5th). The Winners of Poster Exhibition are Mrinoy Das, Tahsin Hamid Taha and Delwar Hussain Pabel jointly won first prize; Sandipan Chowdhury and Oyon Chowdhury became second; Prothoma Chowdhury, Sushma Shom and Muhona Chowdhury jointly got third position. There was a magnificent cultural event at the end of the programme. Deans of all Schools, Heads of Departments, faculty members, officials and students attended the programme.
