Working with Bright Dreams for the Future
Metropolitan University (MU) has marked over two decades of excellence since its inception in 2003. Currently operating with six departments across four faculties, the institution remains steadfast in its mission. In a recent interview with a leading national daily, Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of Metropolitan University, shared his insights on the university’s future roadmap and its commitment to providing quality higher education at an affordable cost.
The Chairman noted that since its establishment in May 2003, the university has completed 22 years of service. "While we are a relatively young institution, our commitment to delivering high-standard education is already yielding significant results. We have firmly established our presence, growing steadily in alignment with our strategic vision and public expectations."
Highlighting the national context, Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury pointed out that Bangladesh is defined by its burgeoning economy and a massive youth population. With approximately 34% of the country’s 180 million people aged 15 or younger, the nation stands at the threshold of a "demographic dividend." He emphasized that this potential can only be realized if the youth are equipped with proper education and vocational training.
Over the past decade, enrollment in higher education has tripled, creating a demand that public universities alone could not fulfill. This necessitated a shift in the national education policy, allowing private universities to share the responsibility of human resource development while upholding academic rigor.
The Chairman shared that Metropolitan University was born out of this historic necessity. Established on May 3, 2003, under the Private University Act, the institution was the brainchild of distinguished academic and entrepreneur Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury.
"We are now expanding our horizons to welcome international students," Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury added. "Guided by dedication and a vision for a brighter future, we believe the coming years will be even more transformative. We seek the cooperation of all stakeholders as we follow our roadmap toward excellence."
