A seminar focusing on raising awareness about Mental Health was conducted on August 7 at the venue of Professor M. Habibur Rahman Library Hall. This event was organized by the Metropolitan University Social Services Club.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque, graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest. The workshop had the privilege of having Tahmina Islam, an Associate Professor from the Department of Social Work at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, as the Resource Person.
In his address, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque emphasized the importance of students developing the capacity to navigate through diverse challenges. He pointed out that university students represent some of the nation's most exceptional talents. Undesirable incidents such as depression and student suicides should not occur within our country's universities. Beyond academia, the rising prevalence of depression among the nation's youth raises concerns about our overall progress.
The workshop was presided over by the President of Metropolitan University Social Services Club and Head of the Department of Law and Justice Mr. Gazi Saiful Hasan. Dr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin Professor and Head of the Department of Economics and Associate Professor Dr. M. Z. Ashraful also spoke on that occasion.
