Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Observed

Metropolitan University observes the 100th?Birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 17th?March 2020.

On the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the commencement of the ?Mujib Year?, the day was observed with tributes, discussion meeting and prayers. In addition to these arrangements, the illumination is carried out on Monday and Tuesday, the 16th and 17th March 2020 at the University's Campus in Bateshwar.

Metropolitan University family paid tributes to the portrait of Bangabandhu on Tuesday morning. Later, a discussion meeting was held at Professor M Habibur Rahman Library Hall.

The Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury attended the Discussion Meeting as Chief Guest. He said,??If we do not hold the ideology of Bangabandhu in our hearts,? it has no point of celebrating the Birth centenary or the ?Mujib Year 2020?. Bangabandhu was a lifelong leader. If we can nurture his struggling consciousness in the hearts, we will be able to find strength in our weal and woe. He is the leader of all times, of all people.?He cannot be confined to a party circle and we must show universal respect to him.?

The Chairman of the Meeting and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Shiba Prasad Sen said, ?If Bangabandhu was not born, our existence as a Bengali would not last. He struggled for the independence of the Bengalis all his life and under his leadership, Bangladesh became independent and sovereign. Bangabandhu not only wanted independence but also the economic freedom of the people.?

The Treasurer and Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak said, ?Bangabandhu is the father of the nation, he is not the father of any party. There are many people who are not in Awami League. But they have profound respect for Bangabandhu. We have to introduce Bangabandhu to our new generations so that they can realize that we also have Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela as one of us.?

The Chairman of the Centenary Celebration Committee and Dean of the School of Business & Economics, Professor Taher Billal Khalifa delivered the welcome speech.

Prayers were offered at the end of the meeting for the deceased soul of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and for the welfare of the nation.
