International Mother Language Day and Martyrs? Day 2023 Observed

Metropolitan University, Sylhet observed International Mother Language Day and Martyrs? Day 2023 with due solemnity. The teachers, officials and employees led by Vice Chancellor placed wreaths at Kendriya Shahid Minar in the morning, paying rich tributes to those who made supreme sacrifices in 1952 to establish Bangla as the State language. Later on, a discussion meeting was held on the significance of the day at Professor M Habibur Rahman Hall.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Shiba Prasad Sen attended the discussion meeting as Chief Guest and Special Guest respectively. Moderated by Registrar of the University Mr. Tarek Islam, the discussion meeting was presided over by Treasurer and Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque said, ?Our movement for mother language has set a unique precedent throughout the world.?Those who have sacrificed their lives to establish Bangla as the State language are the heroes of the nation. Because of their noble sacrifice, today we are proudly speaking and communicating in our mother tongue.?Basically, by holding the perceptions of language movement and by the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, we finally achieved independence in 1971.?

The Gazi Saiful Hasan, Member Secretary of International Mother Language Day Celebration Council & Head Dept. of Law & Justice delivered the welcome speech. Later on, Kazi Wohiduzzaman, Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, presented the keynote paper entitled, "Position of Bangla Language in Information Technology: Possibilities and Practicable Actions" to highlight the significance of the day.

Dean of the School of Business & Economics, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa; Dean of the School of Science & Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury; Associate Professor and Acting Dean of the School of Law, Sheikh Ashrafur Rahaman; Deputy Registrar, Mihir Kanti Choudhury ?also spoke on that occasion.
