The 46th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day 2021 was observed in Metropolitan University with due solemnity and respect. Metropolitan University arranged several programmes for the day including hoisting the National flag at half-mast, paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu, holding black badges and discussion meetings.
A floral wreath was laid on the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman located in front of the administrative building at 10 am. Later on, a discussion meeting was held at Professor M Habibur Rahman Library Hall, highlighting the significance of the day.
The Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury ; Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Saleh Uddin PhD; Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen; Treasurer, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak joined the discussion meeting virtually.?The meeting was presided over by Dr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin, Proctor and Associate Professor of the Department of Business Administration.
During the discussion, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury said, "A man can be killed, but not his ideology. That is why the architect of independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is ever radiant in his glory. Following the path of his ideology, Bangladesh is moving forward to her desired destination. Five of his killers are still on the run. They have to be brought back into the country and court verdict has to be implemented. Besides, it is important to find out who was the mastermind behind everything."
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Saleh Uddin PhD said, "Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are closely connected. It is not possible to separate one from the other. Our new generation should be informed properly about his struggles, thoughts and persistence of goals."
Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen; Mr. Gazi Saiful Hasan, Head of the Dept. of? Law and Justice;? Mr. Anik Biswas, Head of the Dept. of? English and Deputy Registrar,? Mr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury also spoke on the occasion
Deputy Director (Public Relations) Ms. Sumana Aziz anchored the discussion meeting.
Besides, open discussion and quiz competitions were organized at the initiatives of different departments and students participated in large numbers.
Heads of Departments, teachers, officers and employees were present in the meeting in compliance with the rules of hygiene and physical distancing.
