Metropolitan University observed the National Mourning Day 2020
Metropolitan University observed the National Mourning Day marking the 45th?anniversary of the assassination of Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The day was observed through various activities including, tributes to the portrait of Bangabandhu, tree plantation, special prayer, virtual discussion meeting etc. The health guidelines advised by the Ministry of Health were followed in carrying out the programmes The National flag was hoisted at half mast. At 11 am, tributes were paid to the portrait of Bangabandhu?Sheikh Mujibur Rahman?placed in front of the administrative building of the campus. Later on, a discussion meeting was held in Professor?M. Habibur Rahman? Library Hall of the University where many attended through ZoomTechnology. The Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury; Vice Chairman, Mr. Tanwir M.O. Rahman Chowdhury; Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin; Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen;? Treasurer and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak; Deans of all Schools, Heads of all departments, teachers, and officials attended the discussion. The discussion meeting was presided over by the Convenor of National Mourning Day Observance Committee and Dean of the School of Business & Economics, Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa Dr. Toufique Rahman said,??It is not possible to separate Bengali, Bangla, Bangladesh and Bangabandhu. New generation needs to know the history of the Father of the Nation,?Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.?Bangabandhu struggled for the rights and welfare of the people. That glorious history needs to be presented in front of the new generation. There is also a need for proper institutional research on Bangabandhu? Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin said, ?If Bangabandhu had not been born, Bangladesh would not have been born. Bangabandhu means Bangladesh. We have to follow and nurture the real ideology and policies of Bangabandhu.? Vice Chairman, Mr. Tanwir M.O. Rahman Chowdhury said, "In order to show respect to Bangabandhu, everyone has to work for the country with honesty, devotion and sincerity from their respective positions." The golden Bengal of Bangabandhu's dream will be built one day with a small contribution from everyone.' Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa? stressed on the need of turning the shock into strength and making the nation glorified. The Heads of the departments posted statuses on their respective Facebook groups, explaining the significance of the day.
