Metropolitan University celebrated the 50th Victory Day paying deep homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country during the Liberation War.
On December 16 in 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the cost of supreme sacrifices of three million people and the honour of nearly two hundred?thousand women.
In the morning, a floral wreath was laid at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the university premises. Later on, a discussion meeting was held at 11 am in Professor Habibur Rahman Auditorium.
Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury; Dean of the School of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa; Deputy Registrar, Mr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury; Head of the Department of English, Mr. Anik Biswas participated in the discussion anchored by Ms. Sumona Aziz.
The speeches were dedicated to the memory of martyred Professor Munir Chowdhury and Professor Rashidul Hasan.
The speakers said,??We all need to know the period from the partition of 1947 to the liberation War in 1971, the sacrifice of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, genuine history of Bangladesh, our language, culture and above all our economic, social and global progress. And if we know this history, our celebration will be fruitful.?
Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa said, ?We have many limitations. But we will not yield to limitations. We will not lose. We have to move forward, leaving aside the limitations. We must take our country ahead.?
The discussion meeting was presided over by the Dean of the School of Business and Economics Professor Dr. Md. Taher Billal Khalifa.
The Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Mr. Tanwir M.O. Rahman Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Saleh Uddin PhD and Treasurer of the University Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak joined the discussion virtually. Heads of Departments, teachers, officers and employees were present in compliance with the rules of hygiene and social distancing.
