In the attempt of developing self-reliance among the underprivileged people, the social organisation "Hath Barao" was launched by the Business Administration Department of Metropolitan University, Sylhet. The launching ceremony was held in the University on 24th May 2018. On behalf of the organisation, a sewing machine was handed over to an underprivileged woman named Shahana Aktar. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury; Vice Chancellor in charge, Professor Shiba Prasad Sen; Dean, School of Business & Economics, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa; Assistant Professor and Head Department of Business Administration, Md. Masud Rana also attended the ceremony. Head of Business Administration Department and Coordinator of the programme, Md. Masud Rana said, "Every month 'Hath Barao' will try to stand beside at least one member of the helpless group of people."
