The great leader and Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, delivered a speech on March 7, 1971 in front of millions of people gathered at the Race Course Ground demanding a sovereign nation to stop Pakistani brutality on Bengali people. Now the historic speech is internationally recognised. On 30 October 2017, UNESCO added the speech as a World Heritage Speech.
On this day in 1971, the liberation war was outlined. Metropolitan University observed the day with dignity and fervour. A discussion meeting was arranged in the campus highlighting the significance of the day. The meeting was presided over by the Dean of the School of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa. The Dean of the School of Science & Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury was the chief discussant in the meeting.? Mr. Gazi Saiful Hasan, Head of the Dept. of ?Law and Justice; ?Mr. Anik Biswas, Head of the Dept. of ?English and Deputy Registrar,? Mr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury also spoke in the discussion. Deputy Director (Public Relations) Ms. Sumana Aziz anchored the ?meeting.
The Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury and Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Saleh Uddin PhD joined the discussion meeting virtually.
The discussant said, "The speech needs to be re-read and it should be passed on to the next generation. The underlying meaning of Bangabandhu's speech must be understood. The duration of Bangabandhu's speech was around 19 minutes, where 56 to 60 words were said per minute. It was an instant speech of 1167 words and there was no repetition of words. It is very important to know Bangabandhu to understand the original meaning of the speech can be realised by reading his autobiography 'Asamapta Atmajibani'."
Heads of Departments, teachers, officers and employees were present in the meeting in compliance with the rules of hygiene and social distancing.
