Metropolitan University is?going to introduce?a certificate course in journalism for the first time in Sylhet from the next month of the year. The University has also decided to introduce a BSS (Honors) in Journalism course under the journalism department from next year. It was announced in a press conference arranged by the University on Monday, the 9th?September 2019.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin told the press,??The field of journalism expanded after the independence of the country while the numbers of trained journalists is insufficient. The main reason of this shortage is the lack of proper training. So, Metropolitan University has taken the initiative of introducing a certificate course in Journalism to create a trained manpower to work in the media.?
The duration of the course will be 3 months (3 hours per class) and any graduate may take the course. The fee of the certificate course is at Tk 8,000. However, there is a discount of Tk 3,000 on course fees for the opening batch. The number of students in each batch of this course will be 30.
Professor Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin also said, ?After completing the course, students will get the basic idea of journalism. They will learn how to collect news in a professional manner and present it objectively, how to conduct interviews, disseminate news with regard to media laws and ethical issues. Students will also learn about electronic and online journalism. Course finishers will be able to produce or edit news on various platforms, such as newspapers, radio, television or online. We will also start a Mass Communication and Journalism department next year. Assistant Professor Gazi Saiful Hasan, who has been associated with various media for a long time will serve as the acting Head of the department.?
Metropolitan University has an Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) established with the assistance of the University Grants Commission. The curriculum of the journalism course has been developed under the supervision of the curriculum experts of this cell.
