Metropolitan University Observed International Mother Language Day
Metropolitan University, Sylhet observed International Mother Language Day and Martyrs Day with great enthusiasm and due respect. Metropolitan University authority placed wreaths on Central Martyrs Monument at mid night pay tribute to those who made supreme sacrifices on February 21 in 1952 to establish their mother tongue as the state language. Metropolitan University took the following steps to observe the Martyrs? Day and International Mother Language Day 2017 according to the following schedule: Early hours at 12:01 am: Places wreaths at Central Martyrs Monument, Sylhet. Morning at 6:00 am: National Flag will be Hoisted (Half must) at Metropolitan University Campus. Morning at 10:30 am: Publication of the Wall Magazine. Morning at 10:45 am: Discussion Meeting on the significance of the day. In the discussion Language Movement activist and Professor Emeritus of Metropolitan University Md. Abdul Aziz says "Bengali is the language of official acts. But the laws are not being followed. There are laws in the country, the number plate of cars will be in Bengali, but it is not being followed. Our traffic police does not take action for any breach of the law." He also says, "21st February is observed all over the world as International Mother Language Day. It is a matter of pride for us. Bangla has been recognizes as the second language of Sierra Leone. It is a great achievement for us."
