Metropolitan University, Sylhet observed International Mother Language Day and Martyrs Day with great enthusiasm and due respect. Metropolitan University authority placed wreaths on Central Martyrs Monument in the Morning paying tribute to those who made supreme sacrifices on February 21 in 1952 to establish their mother tongue as the state language. A discussion meeting is held in the University on the significance of the day in the chairmanship of the Dean School of Business & Economics Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa. The acting Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Shiba Prasad Sen and the Dean School of Science & Technology Professor Dr. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury attended the discussion as chief guest and keynote speaker respectively. Among others, the Controller of Exam Professor Nandalal Sharma, Head of the Dept. of CSE Chowdhury Md. Mukammel Wahid, Professor of the Department of Law and Justice Barrister Md. Arash Ali were present in the discussion.
