On March 26th, Metropolitan University undertook several
initiatives to observe Independence and National Day with solemnity. Professor
Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque, the Vice Chancellor, and Treasurer, Professor Dr.
Taher Billal Khalifa, simultaneously raised the national flag and the
university flag at 11:00 am on the university campus. Prior to this, faculty
members, students, officers, and office staff, led by the Vice Chancellor, laid
a floral wreath at the Central Martyr Monument in Sylhet.
Subsequently, another floral wreath-laying ceremony took
place at the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, with the participation of faculty members, students, officers, and
office staff, led by the Vice Chancellor. The University Rover Scouts team
organized the national flag hoisting and floral wreath-laying ceremonies.
A discussion session convened at Professor M. Habibur
Rahman Hall of the university, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque,
the Vice Chancellor, and moderated by Tarek Islam, the Registrar. During the
session, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque highlighted the profound
significance of Bangladesh's independence war, led by the Father of the Nation,
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and its intrinsic connection to the nation's
identity. He stressed the imperative need to eradicate economic inequality and
exploitation to truly materialize the aspirations of independence, emphasizing
that only through concerted efforts could the nation progress towards a future
of prosperity and equality.
Mr. Md Masud Rana, Associate Professor of the Department
of Business Administration, served as the main discussant of the program. The
event was attended by Deans of various schools, the Controller of Examinations,
the Proctor, Heads of Departments, Student Welfare Advisor, Director of
Finance, Deputy Registrar, Additional Director of IQAC, faculty members,
students, and staff of the University.
