The Metropolitan University Premier League (MPL)
begun its 12th season, organized by the Metropolitan University
Sports Club, with an inaugural ceremony held at the Bateshwar University
permanent campus grounds on Thursday, February 8, at 11 am. The event commenced
with the national anthem, setting the stage for a month of exciting cricket
matches.
During the inauguration, Vice Chancellor of the
University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque, emphasized the importance of
physical and mental health in enhancing students' knowledge and skills. He
highlighted that a university is more than just classrooms and certificates,
stating that creating new knowledge and theories is a fundamental task.
Professor Hoque underscored the significance of co-curricular activities such
as sports and cultural events in preparing students for the challenges of the
future.
The Treasurer, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa,
graced the event as a special guest, adding to the distinguished presence. The
Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, and the Vice Chairman
Tanwir MO Rahman Chowdhury extended their best wishes for the success of the
twelfth season of MPL.
In the opening match, the Department of Law and
Justice team secured victory by defeating the CSE Smashers team with 8 wickets
to spare. Adnan from the Department of Law and Justice team showcased an
outstanding performance, earning him the well-deserved title of Man of the
Match. The match set a spirited tone for the upcoming matches, promising an
exciting season of cricket for the university community.
