The Department of Law and Justice arranged a National Conference on Rule of Law and Good Governance in the University City Campus on 2nd March 2019.
Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Law of the University of Dhaka was present in the Conference as keynote speaker. He was also the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh.
17 research papers were presented by the researchers and the faculty members of renowned Universities of Bangladesh presented during this National Conference. Besides, there were 12 research papers of students.
Dr. Mizanur Rahman said, ?We trust the state. But sometimes the state becomes a threat in many ways. The rule of law is required to control the situation. We talk about the law, but in reality there will be no rule of law, it cannot be like that. Where there is rule of law, people do not have to be persecuted.?
He also said, ?Many people say Bangladesh is now the role model of development. It is good to be a role model. But when our children go out of the house, we are skeptical about whether they will return safely. Even after so many years of independence, our parents cannot be at peace. It was not supposed to happen.?
At the very beginning, the Convener of the Conference, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Law & Justice, Mr. Gazi Saiful Hasan delivered the welcome speech. Later on, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Shiba Prasad Sen; the Dean of the School of Law, Professor Dr. Rabiul Hossain and Professor of the Department Barrister Md. Arash Ali delivered their speeches.
Lecturer Ms. Jannatul Ferdous highlighted Dr. Mizanur Rahman's career. The Conference was anchored by Ms. Nishat Tabassum, a student of the department.
Experts conducted the technical session during the conference on 'Good Governance', 'Rule of Law', 'Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development', 'Legal Education and Development' and 'Human Rights and Development'.
Best Paper Award from academician category was received by Khandakar Kohinur Akter
(Urmee), Assistant Professor (Law), School of Social Science, Humanities and Language (SSHL), Bangladesh Open University, Gazipur, Dhaka for the paper entitle "Medical Negligence Laws: A Comparative Study between Bangladesh and India"
Best Paper Award from student's category was jointly received by Tamanna Tabassum Kabir, final year student of Metropolitan University and Md. Bayzid Hossain, student of Bangladesh
University of Professionals for the paper entitled, ?Pavement of Good Governance into
the Local Government Institutions of Bangladesh?.
Moreover, Deans of different schools, Heads of all departments, faculty members, officials and students were present on the occasion.
