National Mourning Day 2023 observed at Metropolitan University
Metropolitan University observed the 48th?martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day on 15 August 2023. A commemorative discussion took place at the Professor M Habibur Rahman Hall. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa, Dean of the School of Business & Economics and the Convener of the National Mourning Day 2023 Observance Committee. Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque, the Vice Chancellor of the University, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak, the Treasurer and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, attended the discussion as Special Guest. The programme was anchored by the Registrar of the University, Mr. Tarek Islam. During his speech Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque said, ?Bangabandhu was assassinated only physically but remains undying in spirit. His legacy is everlasting, as he envisioned and built a nation. As long as this nation endures, his memory lives on. He meticulously readied the entire populace, instilling them with the spirit of Bengali nationalism, to courageously engage in armed resistance against the oppressive Pakistani Army. His immortality thrives within the essence of this nation. Bangabandhu signifies more than an individual; he embodies a profound ideology. By actualizing the visionary principles of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh can progress and advance.? Proctor and Head of the Department of Economics, and Member Secretary of the National Mourning Day 2023 Observance Committee, Dr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin delivered the welcome speech. Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Haque Chowdhury, Dean, School of Science & Technology; ?Sheikh Ashrafur Rahaman, Associate Professor and Dean In-Charge, School of Law; ?Dr. M. Z. Ashraful, Associate Professor and Adviser (Student Welfare); Deputy Registrar, Mr. Mihir Kanti Choudhury, and ?Salma Shobha Anika, a student of BBA 59th Batch also spoke on the occasion. At 9 am, the national flag and a mourning flag were hoisted at the campus by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahirul Hoque and Professor Dr. Suresh Ranjan Basak respectively. At 9:15 am, students, teachers, officials and employees placed wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led by the Vice Chancellor. On the occasion of National Mourning Day, competitions of poetry recitation, poster drawing and quiz supplemented by poster exhibition were held. After the discussion meeting, the winners of the competition were awarded by the Chief Guest. A dua session was conducted by Md. Ismail Hossain, Pesh Imam of the University.
