University Rover Scout Team has celebrated 158th birth anniversary of Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting and Chief Scout of the World. Beginning of the programme, there was a documentary played for audience highlighting the biography of Baden-Powel?s early life, Military life and Scouting life. Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, known as B-P, was born in Paddington, London on 22 February 1857. He was the eighth of ten children of Baden, a Professor at Oxford University, and Henrietta Powell. His father died when B-P was only three years old, leaving the family in a challenging situation. In 1876, he went to India as a young army officer and specialised in scouting, map-making and reconnaissance. His success soon led to his training other soldiers. In 1907, Baden Powell held an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in Dorset, to try out his ideas. He brought together 20 boys, some from private schools and some from working class homes, and took them camping under his leadership. This was to be considered the starting point of the Scout Movement. B-P prepared a farewell message to his Scouts, for publication after his death that was ?try and leave this world a little better than you found it? Every year this day is celebrated worldwide with great honour. Prof. Nandalal Sharma (President), Muhammad FR Tanvir (Vice-President), Shah Minhaz Rahman(Group Secretary), Advocate Lukman Ahmed Chowdhury (Member) of M U Rover Scout Group Committee were present in the programme. Besides Tarek Islam (Director, Administration), Md Enamul Haque Deputy Director (Finance and Accounts), Mihir Kanti Chowdhury(Deputy Registrar) also present in the programme. The programme was open for all the students, faculty and staff of the University.
