I am a proud faculty member at my alma mater, Metropolitan University, Sylhet. My mission to be a teacher was inspired by the quality teaching I received from my university. Throughout the years of my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, I was taught and guided by a number of quality teachers whose teaching techniques, depth of knowledge and moral guidance was enough to start me off dreaming about being a university teacher. When finally in 2015, I managed to become part of this quality faculty, I felt my dream had come true. Now I am looking to serve my alma mater as faithfully and diligently as I was served. I hope all the existing and former students will do their best to uphold the quality and reputation of this department.
Abdullah Al Mashud Senior Lecturer, Department of English, Metropolitan University

There are many ways of achieving success in life, yet there are far fewer ways of enriching it. Pursuing a degree in English has provided me with such enrichment. Throughout my time in the English programme at Metropolitan University, my professors inspired me to possess a deep appreciation for language and why it matters. Professors in the department of English not only strive to develop these qualities in young learners, but they also demonstrate their tremendous value in their own personal and professional lives. The English instructors share brilliance, thoughtfulness, accessibility, and good humor, yet approach their subjects with distinctly unique perspectives, experience, and knowledge. Under their teaching and examples, I have broadened my imagination, sharpened my writing and critical thinking skills, caught a passion for English literature and language, and come to understand more than ever what it means to live in Earth.

Now a day, there is an arising misconception that a degree in the humanities is becoming outdated that it will not make one profitable in today’s economy. I think it is false notion. A degree does not make one desirable but character does. I am immensely grateful for the guidance I received from the department of English that helped shape my character to what it is today. Studying English literature and Language teaches us how to create worlds of our own and how to use these worlds to better understand our own nature.
I am proud to have been a faculty member at my alma mater, Metropolitan University, Sylhet. Since graduating from here, my degree in English Education has led me to success in the classroom, where I strive to demonstrate to my students the same importance of language that was impressed upon me.
